The Season of Giving
It’s Christmas morning. The kids are staring at their presents under the tree, just waiting to tear the colorful paper into pieces. The excitement is obvious, and it’s taking all their self control (what little that they have) to keep from shredding the wrapping paper to reveal what gifts lie underneath. We all remember the one or two toys that we asked our parents for months in advance, hoping they would listen and finally buy us that Air Hockey Table or Barbie Dreamhouse we had been eyeing on every visit to the store.
But that Christmas morning excitement about what gifts we’re receiving eventually fades, and we start caring more about the giving side of gifting. We stop looking forward to what is wrapped for us under the Christmas tree and start planning all the gifts we want to give to the people in our life. Maybe it’s an egg cooker for that friend who can’t make a hard-boiled egg no matter how hard she tries (Gina’s 2018 Gift:)) , or a hand sanitizer that says, “Maybe you touched your genitals” for the office white elephant party. Either way, the satisfaction that comes with picking out the perfect gift replaces the anticipation of opening your own presents from friends and family. And honestly, that’s the way it should be.
The holidays are about showing our loved ones how much we appreciate them, and it’s fun to show that appreciation through a gift. For our sassy friend who loves to bake, an oven mitt that says “Droppin’ a new recipe on your ass.” For our daycare lady who somehow puts up with 20 kids almost every day of the week, an unbreakable wine glass, (she deserves a relaxing way to end the day). And for the hostess with the mostest at our next holiday party, a satirical dish towel and our favorite Barr & Co. soap set. The perfect gift shows we care, which is really the reason for the holiday season .
We at the Happy Sol appreciate the art of gift giving as much as anyone else which is why we love giving back to our community whenever we can. Throughout November, we spent every day listing all the things we are grateful for, including: our kids, our husbands, our jobs, our community, our customers, and OF COURSE, each other. During our 30 Days of Gratitude, we gifted our loyal customers with special giveaways and discounts GALORE and donated to worthy causes in the area. The joy of giving was overwhelming, and we will continue to give back to our community in every way that we can.
And our community gives back to us every day by buying local and shopping at the Happy Sol. So from us to you, here’s a HUGE thank you for the gift of seven years of support. It’s because of all of you that we love giving back to the community in every way we can, continuing the cycle of giving.
